Born in Nottinghamshire, and a graduate of singing and organ from the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio, Soar is in demand as a bass on both the concert and opera stage.

He has performed at some of the world's most prestigious opera houses including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, The Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, Opernhaus Zürich, the Glyndebourne Festival, Teatro Real Madrid, and has worked with conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sir Mark Elder, Sir Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, Gianandrea Noseda, Carlo Rizzi, and Jakub Hrůša.

In concert he has worked with many leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Academy of Ancient Music, The English Concert, and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.

Highlights from the 2023-24 season include Judge Turpin Sweeney Todd and Fasolt Das Rheingold for Opernhaus Zürich, Hobson Peter Grimes for English National Opera, as well as his debut with the San Francisco Symphony in Stravinsky’s Les Noces, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.

In the coming months he makes his debuts at the Napa Valley Festival, California, as Osmin in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail, at Utah Opera as Judge Turpin, at St. Thomas Church, 5th Avenue, New York City in Handel's Messiah, and at the Salzburg Mozartwoche as a soloist in Mozart’s arrangement of Handel’s Alexander’s Feast.
