Rayfield Allied is delighted to announce the representation of composer Michael Berkeley.
A well-known broadcaster on Radio 3 where he presents Private Passions, his works have been commissioned and performed worldwide, by artists such as Andre Previn, Sir Colin Davis, Mstislav Rostropovich, John Harle and Nicholas Daniel. His music is regularly heard at the BBC Proms where his commissions have included the large-scale works The Garden of Earthly Delights, Songs of Awakening Love and Concerto for Orchestra. In 2011 the BBC Proms programme included the London premiere of his Organ Concerto, performed by Jac van Steen and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales with soloist David Goode.
His recent commissions have included the oboe quintet Into the Ravine for Nicholas Daniel and the Carducci Quartet, shortly to be released by Signum Classics, an anthem for the Enthronement of the new Archbishop of Canterbury in March 2013 and Cabaret Songs for Barbara Hannigan and Angela Hewitt for the Transimeno Festival Italy.
Future plans include Clarion Call and Gallop for the Berkeley Ensemble, to be premiered in October 2013, and a new orchestration of The Art of Fugue for Wayne McGregor and the Royal Ballet for February 2014. His music is currently being featured at the Klassike Dage Festival in Holstebro, Denmark where a new instrumental arrangement of his work Touch Light will be given on October 4.
He was made a CBE for services to music in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2012 and appointed a non-party political member of the House of Lords in 2013.
