Rayfield Allied is delighted to report that the Top 10 Mozart recordings as selected by Gramophone contains two discs which feature artists from our roster.
Every issue, Gramophone’s Editor Martin Cullingford selects 12 of his most highly recommended recent releases. Recently, however, Gramophone has started producing lists of 10 of the best recent recordings by individual composers.
Amongst the Editor’s Top 10 are the Dunedin Consort’s recording of Mozart’s Requiem (Linn), which features mezzo Rowan Hellier and bass-baritone Matthew Brook, and the first volume of pianist Christian Blackshaw’s live performances of the composer’s piano sonatas (Wigmore Live).
Of the Requiem recording, Rowan’s performance has been described as one of “fruity timbre which melds well…she sings with superb control and composure” (Voix des Arts), whilst Matthew’s a performance which “responds sonorously to the sounding of the last trumpet in the ‘Tuba mirum’” (Gramophone).
