Many congratulations to Sonoko Miriam Welde who has been awarded the Statoil Talent 2016 Scholarship. This prestigious award was recently presented at the Statoil Autumn Concert launch.

Sonoko Miriam recently performed at the Oslo Philharmonic 2016 summer concert and has been chosen for their prestigious Crescendo mentoring programme, which is run in partnership with the Oslo Philharmonic and Bergen International Festival.

Previous winners of the Statoil Talent Scholarship fund include fellow Norwegian artists Leif Ove Andsnes, Vilde Frang, Tine Thing Helseth & Christian Ihle Hadland.

Before receiving the award, Leif Ove Andsnes stated that:

“This year’s winner is a violinist who has already shown us for several years what she is capable of, both as a soloist and through her attentive music making with colleagues. She has a sound that is both fascinating and moving. There is already a strong personal voice in her playing that always makes one want to listen. She is a hardworking musician who constantly seeks to develop, including through studies in Berlin, where she now lives. She is constantly expanding her range of expression, and it will be very exciting to follow her in the future.”

This season, Sonoko Miriam Welde looks forward to performing with the 1B1 Ensemble and as well as a duo recital with pianist Sergio Tiempo at the Bergen International Festival.
