Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and sons Ayaan Ali Bangash and Amaan Ali Bangash released their latest album on 22nd May 2020 on Zoho Records.
Strings for Peace, which received its premiere live performances in a tour of India in 2019, is a collaboration with American guitarist Sharon Isbin that explores the commonalities of Western and Eastern stringed instruments and traditions. The new recording consists of four ragas composed by Amjad Ali Khan himself, arranged for sarod and guitar and performed with tabla.
On the recording, Amjad Ali Khan writes: “each of the artists brings the spirit of sharing the great unique treasures of their own artistic traditions, as well as finding common ground in ragas and medieval modes. The idea is to achieve a cross-fertilization at both the cellular and cosmic levels of two classical music traditions, which are often held to be radically different.”
