We are thrilled by the number of Rayfield Allied artists featuring in Presto Classical's Top 100 Recordings of the Year:
Helen Charlston | Dussek: Messe Solemnelle
Described as "A hugely worthwhile discovery of an unknown work" by The Sunday Times, Helen Charlston joined the Academy of Ancient Music and their choir, conducted by Richard Egarr, who she made her debut with last season.
Leonore Trio | Litolff: Piano Trios Nos. 1 & 2
The latest in the Leonore Piano Trio's exploration of hidden gems in the piano trio repertoire for Hyperion was described as "Excitable, high-octane brilliance" (The Guardian), "engaging music, played with striking advocacy from the outset, and beautifully recorded" (Gramophone - Editor's Choice) and "a thoroughly enchanting release" (Classics Today).
David Hill | Howells: Missa Sabrinensis
David Hill’s latest Hyperion release has been described variously as “electrifying”, “uplifting” and “one of this year’s most significant choral recordings”. Directing The Bach Choir, BBC Concert Orchestra and soloists, Herbert Howell’s Missa Sabrinensis is heard in a new version edited by David Hill himself with Paul Spicer, which restores the work so it can be heard as Howells intended for the first time.
Paul McCreesh & Mhairi Lawson | Purcell: The Fairy Queen, 1692
McCreesh's performance with the Gabrieli Consort & Players received numerous outstanding reviews upon its release. It also achieved the title of 'Opera Choice' with BBC Music Magazine earlier this year, and Presto Recording of the Week in April. Gramophone praised McCreesh: "[his] labour of love has abundant nuances and transcendent beauty."
Peter Harvey | In Chains of Gold: The English Pre-Restoration Verse Anthem Vol. 2
The Magdalena Consort, directed by Peter Harvey, teamed up with Fretwork and His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts in this well-received disc, praised for having "a beguilingly fluid and natural interaction between solo voices and vocal consort" by BBC Music Magazine. It also achieved the title of Presto Recording of the Week in June earlier this year.
The top 10 recordings will be announced on Thursday 10th December. Read the full list here.
