On Friday 19th November, Sonoko Miriam Welde’s debut concerto album was released on LAWO Classics.
The disc features violin concertos by Barber and Bruch, and Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending, with both Tabita Berglund and Joshua Weilerstein conducting the Oslo Philharmonic.
In the much-anticipated run up to the album’s release, Sonoko was invited to interview on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune show, which can be heard here, and on Classic FM, the disc was Album of the Week on Alexander Armstrong’s show and Sonoko was featured as Charlotte Hawkins's Young Classical Star.
In print, she was featured in both BBC Music Magazine’s ‘Rising Star’ column and Gramophone Magazine’s ‘One to Watch’, which wrote of the new album: “Major masterpieces by composers from around the world, performed alongside players and for a label rooted at the heart of her homeland – a perfect way for this young violinist to make her first statement on record”.
