We are delighted that South African tenor Thando Mjandana has been announced as a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme 20th Anniversary Company at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden for the 2021/22 season.
Thando became a Jette Parker Link Artist in the 2018/19 season. His previous roles for The Royal Opera include Odoarde Ariodante (“My ear was also caught by a South African tenor Thando Mjandana in the tiny role of a biddable courtier: what a beautiful voice he has.” - The Telegraph), and Count Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia (scenes) in the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme Summer Performance. In the 2021/22 season he will sing the Messenger in Katie Mitchell’s new production of Handel’s Theodora, the Philistine Messenger in Richard Jones’s new production of Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila, and Gastone de Letorières La traviata (alongside other former Jette Parker Young Artists Yuriy Yurchuk and David Shipley as Baron Douphol and Doctor Grenvil).
Other alumni of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme on the Rayfield Allied roster include soprano Francesca Chiejina (2016-18), mezzo-soprano Justina Gringytė (2011-13), tenors Pablo Bemsch (2011-13) and Ji-Min Park (2007-9), baritones Grant Doyle (2001-3) and Yuriy Yurchuk (2014-16), bass David Shipley (2015-17), conductor Rory Macdonald (2004-6), and stage director Rodula Gaitanou (2010-11).
