On the 4th March, Clare Hammond’s new disc of piano music by Adam Gorb is released on Toccata Classics.
The programme features 24 Preludes in the mould of Bach, Chopin and Shostakovich, alongside Velocity, an exhilarating virtuoso showpiece inspired by the 1994 movie, Speed. Both works were written specifically for Clare by Gorb who has "always admired her constant championing of new music and how she integrates new works with those of the standard repertoire to attract audiences into listening out of their comfort zones", and the pieces are “endlessly inventive and fascinating” to play, as Clare explains in this interview for the disc.
Contemporary music is at the core of Clare’s work - this is her eighth album of music by a living composer, and adds to her impressive discography of over twenty first recordings of works. Clare has also given over 50 world premieres, including those of major works by composers Kenneth Hesketh, Arlene Sierra, Robert Saxton and Michael Berkeley.
