Trombonist Jörgen van Rijen is set to give the world premiere of a new Trombone Concerto "Yericho" with the Orchestre national de Lyon and conductor Gemma New on April 14, 2023.
Written for and dedicated to Jörgen, "Yericho" is a virtuosic new concerto from the Canadian composer Samy Moussa, whose work has been called "strikingly original" (Los Angeles Times). The piece makes the most of Jörgen's "staggering mastery" (NRC Handelsblad) of the trombone, an instrument rarely heard as a soloist in front of a symphonic orchestra. A prolific commissioner and performer of new works, Jörgen continues his special commitment to promoting his instrument with this thrilling new concerto.
