Carolyn Sampson was announced as Artist of the Year at the 2024 Gramophone Awards. Adding to a string of recent accolades, this year has seen the release of her 100th recording as a featured solo artist, an OBE for her services to music and her appointment as an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music.
Carolyn's twenty-five year career to date shows her extraordinary range, inventiveness and versatility as an artist; from the orchestral concert platform, intimate and creative recital programmes to roles on the operatic stage.
Whilst music of the baroque and classical eras are still very much a large and important part of her output, she is now often performing works such as Mahler Symphony 2, 4 and 8, Strauss 'Vier letzte Lieder', and French repertoire such as Berlioz 'Hermine' and 'Les Nuits d'Eté and Dutilleux 'Correspondence'.
"Sampson emerges as the star of the show; she is one of the most versitile sopranos on the scene"
- James Manheim, all music (review from Mahler 8 recording with Minnesota Orchestra and Osmo Vänskä - Sop 1 and 3)
