We are delighted to announce the release of Pieter Wispelwey’s Complete Channel Classics Recordings, a stunning 35-CD box set that captures the essence of his extraordinary musical journey from 1990 to 2009. This collection is available from 1 November 2024.
Pieter’s award-winning discography reflects his deep commitment to the cello and his exploration of a diverse range of repertoire. His acclaimed interpretations of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites have set benchmarks worldwide, while his collaborations with esteemed orchestras such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic, and pianist Paolo Giacometti highlight his versatility as both a soloist and chamber musician.
This comprehensive box set features not only the iconic Bach Suites but also works by contemporary composers like Sofia Gubaidulina, George Crumb and Gyorgy Ligeti. Additionally, it includes complete Brahms and Beethoven sonatas performed with distinguished pianists Paul Komen and Dejan Lazić, alongside a rich selection of solo cello pieces that span a broad spectrum of musical styles.
In Pieter’s own words: “Here they are, the thirty-five CDs of my Channel Classics era which feels rather like my Olympic years. Those two decades were my formative recording and interpreting years. I am incredibly grateful that Outhere Music has presented them in this way.”
This collection is a celebration of Pieter's artistry and a tribute to the cello's extensive repertoire. We invite you to join us in recognising this milestone, which demonstrates the depth and diversity of Pieter's musical explorations.
