This week’s #RAArtistinFocus is Scottish tenor, Liam Bonthrone! For the last 2 years Liam has been a member of the studio at the prestigious Bayerische Staatsoper with this year being his first freelancing. He started his 24/25 season returning to Munich as a guest in two operas, Der Mond and Tote Stadt and will be performing major roles in houses including Potsdam, Royal Danish Opera, Glyndebourne, Cologne, and Gothenburg.
Liam is making a name for himself as someone with a particular affinity with the repertoire of Rossini. ‘Liam Bonthrone had all the high notes for Count Almaviva while his ability to negotiate Rossini's florid writing was impressive’ – George Hall, Opera Now.
He will be singing the role of Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Danish National Opera in Spring 2025.
