This week’s #RAArtistinFocus is sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan, and sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, the sixth and seventh generations in the legendary line of the Senia Bangash school.
Their passion for bringing the sarod to new audiences has taken them to major concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Esplanade Singapore, the Kennedy Centre in Washington, and to performances at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and at the UN Headquarters for their annual UN Day. They are Wigmore Hall Artists in Residence from 2021.
This Saturday, they return to London for a performance of their sarod concerto ‘Samaagam’ with the @londonphilharmonicorchestra at the Royal Festival Hall

***********Amjad Ali Khan and his sons are currently Wigmore Hall Associate Artists, where they have performed sarod solos, trios, and quintets with Ayaan's twin sons Zohaan and Abeer, as well as collaborations with guitarist Sean Shibe, cellist Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, violinists Jennifer Pike and Charlotte Salouste-Bridoux, and the Britten Sinfonia and Refugee Orchestra Project.

Amjad Ali Khan wrote a concerto for sarod and orchestra in 2008 together David Murphy. It has since been performed around the world with prestigious orchestras including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, the Adelaide Symphony, the Philharmonia, and the Gulbenkian Orchestra.
