This week's Artist in Focus is Stage Director, Rodula Gaitanou. Born in Greece, Rodula trained in Paris, attending the Sorbonne Univeristy and the International Theatre School Jacques Lecoq. Rodula has become known for her intense, character driven, stylish productions which are performed internationally.
Across our social media we have been looking back on some of Rodula's most exciting productions and achievements including Rusalka in Liege, La Traviata in Oslo and Andrea Chenier in St Gallen. Her acclaimed 2023 production of Madama Butterfly in Brescia has been revived widely around Italy, and also most recently in Tallinn.
In 2022 she was the recipient of the ARGO award for Arts and Culture in Greece, where she has directed for the National Opera, including productions of La Cenerentola, Così Fan Tutte and most recently, La Forza di Destino.
Rodula has become known for her intense, character driven, stylish productions which are performed internationally. Upcoming highlights include a return to the USA for a new production of The Turn of the Screw for the Spoleto Festival.
Tomorrow will see the premiere of her new production of La Bohème for Malmö Opera, set in 1960s New York.
